Therapeutic indications
Cefotaxime Sodium for Injection is indicated in the treatment of the following infections either before the infecting organism has been identified or when caused by bacteria of established sensitivity:
·Septicaemia.
·Respiratory tract infections: acute and chronic bronchitis, bacterial pneumonia, infected bronchiectasis, lung abscess and post-operative chest infections.
·Urinary tract infections: acute and chronic pyelonephritis, cystitis and asymptomatic bacteriuria.
·Soft tissue infections: cellulitis, peritonitis and wound infections.
·Bone and joint infections: osteomyelitis, septic arthritis.
·Obstetric and gynaecological infections: pelvic inflammatory disease.
·Gonorrhoea: particularly if penicillin-resistant.
·Other bacterial infections: meningitis and other sensitive infections suitable for parenteral antibiotic therapy.
·The administration of DBL Cefotaxime Sodium for Injection prophylactically may reduce the incidence of certain post-operative infections in patients undergoing surgical
Dose and method of administration
Intravenous (IV) and intramuscular (IM) administration
Dissolve DBL Cefotaxime Sodium for Injection in water for injections as shown below. Shake well until dissolved and then withdraw the entire contents of the vial into the syringe and use immediately.
Dose
The dosage, route of administration and dosage interval will depend on the site and severity of the infection, sensitivity of the pathogens and condition of the patient.
Adults
Urinary tract infections
The recommended dose is 2 g daily in two divided doses.
Other infections
For other infections the minimum recommended dosage is 2 g daily in divided doses. This dosage may be increased to 3, 4 or 6 g daily according to the severity of the infection, sensitivity of causative organisms and condition of the patient.
Prevention of post-operative infection
Cefotaxime Sodium for Injection should be administered immediately prior to surgery. A single dose of 1g is suitable for most procedures. For procedures longer than 4 hours a dose of 2 g is recommended. A single 1 g dose in combination with 500 mg metronidazole is effective in colorectal surgery
Gonorrhoea
Uncomplicated gonorrhoea due to non beta-lactamase producing organisms: One single intramuscular dose of 1 g.

Tetracycline CapsulesSpecification250mg 100Capsules /boxShelf life3YearsStorageStore in a cool and dry place below 25ºC, protect from lightTherapeutic indications Tetracycline is a bacteriostatic broad-spectrum antibiotic, active against a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms. 1) Respiratory tract infections: Pneumonia and other lower respiratory tract infections due to susceptible strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella pneumoniae and other organisms. Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia. Treatment of chronic bronchitis (including the prophylaxis of acute exacerbations) and whooping cough. 2) Urinary tract infections: Caused by susceptible strains of the Klebsiella species. Enterobacter species, Escherichia coli, Streptococcus faecalis and other organisms. 3) Sexually transmitted diseases: Infections due to Chlamydia trachomatis including uncomplicated urethral, endocervical or rectal infections. Non- gonococcal urethritis caused by Ureaplasma urealyticum. Tetracycline is also indicated in chancroid, granuloma inguinale and lymphogranuloma venereum. Tetracycline is an alternative drug in the treatment of penicillin resistant gonorrhoea and syphilis. 4) Skin Infections: Acne vulgaris when antibiotic therapy is considered necessary and severe rosacea. 5)Ophthalmic infections:conjunctivitis may be treated with oral tetracycline alone or in combination with topical agents. 6) Rickettsial infections: Rocky Mountain spotted fever, typhus group, Q fever and Coxiella endocarditis and tick fevers. 7) Other infections: Stagnant loop syndrome. Psittacosis, brucellosis (in combination with streptomycin), cholera, bubonic plague, louse and tick-borne relapsing fever, tularaemia, glanders, melioidosis and acute intestinal amoebiasis (as an adjunct to amoebicides). Tetracycline is an alternative drug in the treatment of leptospirosis, gas- gangrene and tetanus. Dose and method of administration Tetracycline should be given one hour before or two hours after meals. Adults (including the elderly) and children over 12 years: The minimum recommended dosage is 250mg every six hours. Therapeutic levels are attained more rapidly by the administration of 500mg initially, followed by 250mg every six hours. For severe infections, the dosage may be increased to 500mg every six hours. Children under 12 years: Contraindicated in this age group.

Doxycycline Hyclate CapsulesSpecification100mg 10*10/boxShelf life3YearsStorageStore in a cool and dry place, protect from light Therapeutic indications Doxycycline is indicated in the treatment of uncomplicated chest, urethral, endocervical or rectal infections in adults caused by susceptible organisms as shown by culture and sensitivity testing. It may also be a useful adjunct to amoebicides in acute intestinal amoebiasis and has a place as adjunctive therapy in severe acne. Dose and method of administration The usual dose in adults is 200 mg on the first day of treatment followed by a maintenance dose of 100 mg/day. This may be given as either a single dose or divided doses administered every 12hours. In the management of more severe infections, 200 mg daily should be given throughout the treatment period. Therapy should be continued at least 24 - 48 hours after symptoms and fever has subsided. If used in streptococcal infections, therapy should be continued for 10 days to prevent the development of rheumatic fever or glomerulonephritis. For children over 12 years of age, the recommended dosage schedule for those under 50 kg is 4 mg/kg on the first day and 2 mg/kg daily subsequently. For children over 50 kg the usual adult dose is used.In the treatment of acute gonococcal anterior urethreitus in males, administer either: 200 mg statand 100 mg at bedtime on the first day followed by 100 mg twice daily for 3-7 days, or 300 mg stat followed by 300 mg one hour later. For acute gonococcal infections in females use 200 mg twicedaily until cure is effected. When treating uncomplicated urethral, endocervical or rectal infection in adults caused by chlamydia trachomatis, give 100 mg twice daily for at least 7 days.
