Mechanism of Action

Lidocaine Injection is a local anesthetic that works by blocking the sodium channels in nerve cells, preventing the generation and conduction of nerve impulses. This action leads to a temporary loss of sensation in the area where it is administered.

Dosage and Administration

Local Anesthesia:Infiltration: The usual dose is 200 mg to 400 mg (1% to 2% solution) administered subcutaneously or intramuscularly.Nerve Block: Doses vary depending on the specific nerve block procedure, typically ranging from 100 mg to 300 mg.
Regional Anesthesia:Epidural: For epidural anesthesia, the initial dose is usually 200 mg to 300 mg (2% solution) with incremental doses as needed.Spinal: A single dose of 15 mg to 25 mg (5% solution) is commonly used.
Intravenous Infusion:For cardiac arrhythmias, an initial bolus of 50 mg to 100 mg is given, followed by an infusion rate of 1 mg to 4 mg per minute.
Administration Notes:
Lidocaine Injection should be administered slowly to avoid systemic toxicity.
When used for local anesthesia, it is often mixed with a vasoconstrictor like epinephrine to prolong the anesthetic effect and reduce bleeding.

Storage

Store Lidocaine Injection at controlled room temperature (15°C to 30°C or 59°F to 86°F) and protect from light.
Do not freeze the solution, as freezing can affect its stability.
For single-dose vials and ampules, discard any unused portion after opening.
